How Takenos delivers dollar access across Latin America

More than a million people across Latin America now use Takenos to receive, hold, and spend stablecoins. 350,000 come from Bolivia, where 1 in 16 of the country's economically active population signed up for the app in its first year there.

"Our users do not come to access stablecoins," Takenos Co-founder and CEO Lucas Posada said. They come because they want access to US dollar value.

In Bolivia, limited foreign reserves of US dollars led banks to place restrictive limits on USD card spending at one time. In Argentina, persistent inflation and currency volatility have long driven people to save in dollars. Stablecoins now increasingly fill those needs.

Takenos offers dollar-denominated accounts, enabling people to participate in the global economy without being limited by the financial infrastructure of their local market. Users can receive payments from abroad, hold their balance in stablecoins, and spend it locally or globally. For local transactions, Takenos supports payment methods widely used across the region, including QR payments and Pix in Brazil. For global purchases, users can pay by card.

Takenos partnered with Rain to power its TakeCard, giving users a way to spend US dollar stablecoins at more than 175 million merchant locations around the world. The program, which initially focused on Argentina and Bolivia, has become a key driver of Takenos’ expansion across Latin America.

"The best part of working with Rain was they really understood the segment of new neobank, stablecoin-based companies,” Posada said. “They understood the regulatory landscape of the markets and the companies they were operating with. It unlocked a lot of growth for Takenos."
